The Elixir Tetrabikos Alchemical Still:
The design of this specialised still was originally based upon the simple alembic such as ones that have been used for centuries by alchemists worldwide in their laboratory work. This lead to the formation of the unique Elixir Alembic Still head that was designed to optimise vapour and flow rates to increase its efficiency.
A stackable, multi-headed version was then produced based on the dibikos and tribikos stills originally designed by the famous Alexandrian alchemist Mary the Prophetess, along with alembics used by alchemists in the 1700’s. |

The result was a still that gave the user the choice of using up to four alembics of descending size at once which could be used to “separate the subtle from the gross” and therefore divide the distillate into either the Three Principles or the Four Elements.
In the latter case (known as a tetrabikos), it was found that the alembics could be also rotated in order to collect the resultant products in each of the corresponding four directions.
The distillates that where obtained could then either be used on their own for specific alchemical/therapeutic practice or could be re-combined/cohobated in the usual way to produce a product that was greatly potentised energetically.
The inclusion of the specially designed Elixir Bellows air condenser (and insert) allowed the user to perform the operation without the need for a water source for cooling*.
*However, the Elixir cold finger adapter is available and recommended if higher temperatures are required/used during the distillation process. |
Includes 2000ml conical flask, alembic still heads
(large, medium, small, and extra small), Elixir Bellows air condenser,
Elixir condenser insert, and round bottom collection flasks (50ml, 30ml, 20ml, and 10ml). |

The Elixir Pelican:
This glassware adaptor was developed by Elixir Herbal Alchemical Laboratories from a well known piece of laboratory equipment practical alchemists used to refer to as “the pelican”.
This was used in alchemical work of both fermentation and coagulation. These operations were paramount in helping the material worked on to release its philosophical sulphur and also in evolving them to final maturity.
The name was given to this apparatus because of its symbolic association with the mythical pelican as it pecked at its own chest in order to feed its young on its blood.
In other words, it was seen as the philosophical act of sacrificing the essence of the material worked with (or indeed the practitioners own essence) in order that it may evolve and rise again into a form that is a step closer to perfection.
Images of this were commonly depicted in early medieval alchemical texts. |

The Alchemist's Pelican |
This process was seen to occur over and over again within the apparatus during the process known as circulation or cohobation (a process which modern chemists would refer to as reflux).
The elixir pelican has been intricately developed taking into consideration the measurements needed for the specific vapour and flow rates to help improve its efficiency. Special attention was also given to the location and insertion of the two side arms (or pelican “necks”) so as to keep true to the original medieval design, and yet still be effective in its application.
Lastly, it also utilises a specially designed trap that when full, acts as an internal condenser which in turn produces an upward vapour vortex through the pelican’s central column. This aids in the effective dispersion of vapour within the upper chamber before it re-condenses and travels back down the side arms to return its source.
The Elixir Pelican Adaptor can also be used in conjunction with the Elixir Alchemical Still (via the use of secondary joint adaptors also available from Elixir Herbal Alchemical Laboratories) in order to enhance specific alchemical applications. |
Includes 2000ml conical flask, Elixir Pelican adaptor, Elixir Bellows air condenser, and Elixir Bellows condenser insert. |
